Top Book Suggestions For Network Marketing

Books = Leverage.

One of my favorite words when it comes to business is LEVERAGE. If you want to grow your business faster and with less resistance, you need to master leverage. To me leverage simply means putting in effort (energy) and getting back a much higher return on that energy. For instance, if you host an event that is one hour, and you have 2 people in the room, it takes you an hour. The same event with 200 people in the room means your message got in front of 100X the people… but it still took you the same amount of time. That would be TIME LEVERAGE.

Books are like KNOWLEDGE LEVERAGE. Imagine you are reading “Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court”. It takes you a few hours to read the book (or a few days if you read as slow as I do). Then you realize that one of the best coaches of all time has put 92 years of WISDOM into that book. Life lessons. Sport Lessons. Lessons about how to win. In a few days you get 92 years of PERSPECTIVE. That’s a powerful thing.

Usually when I hear someone ask “what should I read next” I see a string of book suggestions. But no one takes the time to actually ask “where are you stuck right now?” or “what would you like to learn”. I think that if you want to be intentional with your personal growth (and your business growth) then you should be reading with a purpose. Reading things that will specifically help you right where you need it… right WHEN you need it.

So this blog post is about the top books to read to grow yourself as a person… and to grow your business. Here they are broken down by category. If you have a book suggestion for me, leave it in the comments! It may make the list!

Leadership:

In network marketing your income is NOT your ability to sell. It is your ability to LEAD. So let’s start here!

21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership – Maxwell

This book is the best book I have ever read on leadership. Every “Law” is it’s own chapter, and make for great mini-lessons. If you want to do a book study with your leaders, start with this book.

Turn The Ship Around! A True Story of Turning Followers Into Leaders – L. David Marquet

I love this book because it changed the way I think about leadership. It talks about two models of leadership. Leader >>> Follower VS Leader >>> Leader.

Leader >>> Follower is what most leadership books talk about. Top down, “do what I say” leadership styles. This type of teaching is still around because it is very effective. Unfotunately it is mostly useful when you need peoples “hands and feet”. When you want someone working in a factory or in a huge farm, you want one person to do the thinking, and everyone else to just follow instructions. However when you want people’s “heads and hearts”… when you want them to make decisions and not rely on YOU all of the time for answers, this form of leadership breaks down. The book is a true story that serves as a guide to help you create LEADERS rather than followers.

15 Invaluable Laws of Growth – Maxwell

This book is all about growing and leading yourself. You probably won’t find it in the leadership section of the book store, but if you have read “21 Laws of Leadership” you know that the first law is “the law of the lid”… which states that if you don’t grow YOURSELF as a leader, you will always hold your team back. So leadership book suggestion #3 is “15 Invaluable Laws of Growth”. If someone asked you “what is your plan for personal growth?”… would you have an answer?

No Excuses – Brian Tracy

It’s hard to lead others if you can’t lead yourself. No Excuses is the best book I have ever read about creating self discipline and really learning about your relationship to yourself and to your word. If you want a hard hitting book for yourself and your team, this is it!

Network Marketing Skills

Business of the 21st Century – Kiyosaki

I love this book because it is a high level version of how to create long term wealth. He breaks it down to:
1. Build a network marketing business (keep your day job)
2. Re-invest profits back into your business
3. Buy Real Estate
4. Retire (once your real estate income is high)

I have bought hundreds of copies of this book and given them away to people on my team as they hit new ranks. If you want my top lesson from this book, you can check out a blog post I wrote by clicking here.

Go Pro – Eric Worre

One of the best books I know of for teaching specific skillsets around recruiting and inviting. It also helps give some perspective to building an MLM business compared to a traditional job. Great book for new people on your team.

Business Mindset

Cashflow Quadrant – Kiyosaki

This is the follow up book to the all time bestselling book “Rich Dad Poor Dad”. Cashflow quadrant is the single most important mindset shift to make when you are moving from employee to entrepreneur.

Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less (but better) – Greg McKeown

Essentialism is all about finding the 20% of things that make 80% of the difference. It helped give me clarity and focus. Often times the most important part of getting the right answer, is asking the right question. And Essentialism will help you ask the right questions.

Relationships

Business is all about relationships. Especially as you start to build a huge team. Here are my top picks for relationships.

The Go Giver – Bob Burg

When it comes to relationships in business, one of the best things you can do is lead with value. Focus on how much you can give, not how much you can take. Bob Burg’s book is an instant classic, showing you how to be a Go-Giver. If you want a bigger following… if you want people who know, like and trust you… and if you want to build massive good-will with people, make sure you pick up this book.

How to Win Friends and Influence People – Dale Carnegie

This is a SUPER old book and is still just as true today as it ever was. If you want to grow your leadership ability learn how to influence people. You could probably read this book once a year and get something new from it.

The 5 Love Languages – Gary Chapman

Yes, a marriage book is on my business list. The idea behind this book is that their are 5 primary ways you can give and receive love. (Acts of Service, Physical Touch, Gifts, Quality Time, Words of Affirmation). Generally speaking the way that we SHOW love to others is by using whatever our love language is. But often times the person we are showing love to has a DIFFERENT love language and doesn’t hear our message properly. When a teammate hits a new rank should you buy them a gift or take them to lunch? It depends on their love language!

Pure Instinct – Kolbe

Personally I just skipped the book, and took the Kolbe A Index test. It’s similar to a personality test, but it measures your natural instincts and shows you how to honor yourself and honor others by understanding your Kolbe score. Usually personality tests say “you probably like sparkles and cats” and people say “WOW… I DO like those things!”, but it isn’t really useful for business. Kolbe tests will absolutely change how to interact with and lead teams.

Marketing

A few years ago you didn’t need to know this stuff to be successful in network marketing. But the landscape is changing. Last year the DSA reported that there are 89 MILLION network marketers on the planet. It’s important for you to find a way to stand out from the crowd. Even if you aren’t doing paid ads, understanding the concepts of “attraction marketing” so that you can get prospects coming to you is very important.

DotComSecrets – Russel Brunson

If you are new to building funnels or attraction marketing, this is a great book to start with. If you are using facebook, or paid ads, or just flat out want to create a funnel that brings you leads, you should get this book. He breaks down the 4 things you need to know before marketing: Who + Where + Bait + Result. Master those 4 things and you will have prospects coming to you.

Expert Secrets – Russel Brunson

This is the next step in the process. If you want to position yourself as a trusted authority, you should read this book.

Give – The Ultimate Guide to Using Facebook Ads to Generate More Leads, More Clients, and Massive ROI

If you are thinking about using Facebook as a platform to advertise, this book with break it all down for you. It is THE BEST guide there is at mastering the fundamentals. And trust me, we could all use some work on the fundamentals.

I hope that you enjoy this list of books! Drop me a message in the comments and let me know your #1 book suggestion that I left off the list! And the next time someone asks “what should I read”, don’t give them a one word answer. Shoot them to this post so that they can get the book that will help them the MOST at this exact moment in their path.
